Sausage Guide

Knackwurst

Short, thick sausage made of finely ground pork, flavored with plenty of garlic. The name comes from the German “knacken,” which means “to crack.”

Frankfurter Würstchen

This sausage can only be made in the Frankfurt region of Germany. Our Frankfurter-style Wurst from Michigan is as close as we’ve found to this ancestor to the American hot dog.

Weisswurst

Bavarian white sausage, mild in flavor. In 1857 Munich, butcher Joseph Moser didn’t have ingredients to make Bratwurst, so he combined what he had to satisfy his hungry customers, and Weisswurst was born.

Bockwurst

Created in 1889 by pub-owner Richard Scholtz. He served his sausage with Bockbier (Bock beer), so the sausage became known as the Bockwurst. These pink darlings are on the milder side.

Bratwurst

Dates back to 1313 Franconia. Brats were first popularized in the Midwestern U.S. in the 1920’s. There are numerous varieties and preparations in both Germany and the U.S. We’re sure you’ll enjoy our selection of this familiar favorite.
